Brookwood Student Ministry

To lead, train, and grow students to have a meaningful relationship with Christ in a safe and caring environment.

Brookwood Student Ministry is devoted to serving our students and their families in every way possible. We accomplish this through a team of dedicated, evangelical, Christian adults that put Christ first in our hearts and our service. Learn more about our Team of Advisors below. In this ministry, we believe it is important to allow the students to have a voice. We encourage our students to become leaders through our Beacon Program. With this program in place, our students not only learn to serve within the church, it makes our program “student led” and creates a more effective and meaningful experience for all.

What’s Going On?

Sunday School (Sunday Mornings 9:30-10:30)
Every Sunday morning, the students meet in the Student Annex to participate in Sunday School. Students gather in the worship room for announcements and then go to their class for age appropriate, interactive lessons. Currently, we offer two types of Sunday School experiences. Students can elect to participate in Small Groups or Traditional Sunday School. Our
Small Groups are working through Disciple’s Path- a multi part series on becoming a Disciple of Jesus and strengthening their walk with God. Our Traditional Class is taught using Lifeway’s Explore the Bible series and allows students to walk through books of the bible together to gain a better understanding of what God is teaching us in each.

HangTime! (Scheduled Sundays 12:00-6:00)
On scheduled Sundays, the students are invited to stay after church to participate in afternoon activities. This program is designed to afford more students the opportunity to be a part of both morning and evening services by allowing them to remain on campus. During HangTime students may be involved in Bible Studies, Prayer Time, Committee Meetings (an open forum led by our Student Beacons), Mission Projects and Free Time/Games. Students are requested to bring a lunch and snacks with them that can be stored in our kitchen.

Impact (Sunday Evenings 6:00-7:00)
Our Impact time serves as a time for students and advisors to build relationships through structured small group discussions. Our guys and girls will go separate ways to spend some time learning how God calls them to be a faithful servant in an ever changing world. Students can also expect to participate in creative activities and fun group games during this
time.

Mid-Week Fellowship (Wednesday Evenings 5:30-6:30)
Our game room opens every Wednesday before Renew to allow the students an opportunity to take a break from the week and spend time with each other. As Student Ministry Leaders, we believe it is important to allow our students a regular time to
fellowship and bond with other believers. We provide snacks while they challenge each other in air hockey, pool, foosball, Xbox or board games.

Renew (Wednesday Evenings 6:30-7:30)
Wednesday nights offer Praise, Worship and a Message! These messages are special to our students as most topics come directly from their requests! This provides us an opportunity to teach what the Bible says about issues our young people are facing today. As Advisors, we encourage our students to “take up their cross daily” and we understand that in order to do this,
they must make a daily commitment to follow Jesus. This program allows them to renew that commitment and offers mid-week Worship to help them refresh.

Game Night (Second Friday of Each Month 6:00-8:00)
On the second Friday of each month, our students are invited to spend a couple hours with their friends on campus. Many of our students have developed strong bonds with each other despite attending separate schools. This program allows our students to strengthen these bonds while spending quality, supervised time together. We have group board games, free play,
large group games and snacks!

Meet the Team!

Mr. Jordan | Advisor

Hello, I’m Jordan. I am excited to be working with the students here at Brookwood Baptist Church. I am nationally certified and state certified as an EMT. I am currently going to school for Surgical Technology. I have lived in quite a few places. While living in Italy, I spent 3 years working with youth in an organization called Club Beyond. During my time with them, I was given the opportunity to attend mission trips to Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic (twice!). I have been to 16 countries total. I also love to play guitar during my free time! I can’t wait to see you at church!

 Ms. Erin | Financial Coordinator

Hey ya’ll! I’m Erin and I’m originally from a small (like, incredibly small) town outside of Charlotte, NC. Think like, 1,800 people at most. After I graduated high school, my parents and I moved to Jacksonville to be close to family and since then, I have fallen in love with the sandy beaches of Coastal North Carolina. I’m currently a teacher assistant working with second graders while studying to get my degree in elementary education. I started attending Brookwood Baptist in early 2015 and have been blessed to be a youth leader for an incredible set of kids. Through working with this youth program, I have found my passion in life and a newly renewed relationship with God. I am so excited to see what the future holds and to watch this amazing program grow. In my spare time, I like spending time at the beach, playing with my dogs, and enjoying a good cup of coffee.

Mrs. Brandy | Activities Coordinator

Greetings, My name is Brandy. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Campbell University (Go Camels!!). I’m currently in my graduate program at Northcentral University and I’m over half way done with my Master’s degree in Health Psychology. I work with the special needs population in Jacksonville. I am a coach in various sports for Special Olympics of Onslow County. I enjoy working with youth and watching them develop into our future leaders. I have a 16 year old son who attends the youth group. It is amazing to see his growth (socially, emotionally and spiritually) with the teenagers and church members here at Brookwood Baptist. I’m always happy to help in any way and I look forward to growing in Christ with you.

Mr. Chris | Director of Students

Hello! I have been a member of Brookwood Baptist Church since I was a young boy and “grew up” in this church. This afforded me the opportunity to experience, first hand, the ministries I am working in today. I have worked in Emergency Medical Services for over 12 years and attended Gardner-Webb University where I majored in Sports Medicine. As the Director of Students at Brookwood, I get the pleasure of coordinating all the programs of the ministry, teaching the gospel and interacting with all of our students. I am so blessed to see them growing in their faith and in their walk with Christ. As a whole, our program is growing and will continue to see growth. Please feel free to contact me with any and all questions! I look forward to seeing you at church!

Beacon Program

Beacon: a light set up in a prominent position to serve as a guide

Just as the church is served by our Board of Deacons, our Students are served by a Board of Beacons. The Beacons each represent a committee within the ministry and collaborate to plan, execute and evaluate every aspect of our programs.

The Committees:

Worship/Education:
This committee is responsible for providing input on planning the music and messages of our worship services, “Renew”. They also lead small group discussions under the supervision of an Advisor.

Finance/Fundraising:
This committee is responsible for providing input on the planning of fundraising activities and the general expenditures of the ministry.

Missions/Service:
This committee is responsible for providing input on the planning and execution of missions work and service projects.

Events/Activities:
This committee is responsible for providing input on the planning of fun events and group games. They will often lead our group games during HangTime or our monthly Game Night.

Facilities/Hospitality:
This committee is responsible for providing input on the usage, decoration, cleanliness and upkeep of our facilities, as well as the stock of food and drinks in our kitchen.

Outreach/Welcome:
This committee is responsible for providing input on and coordinating the invitation of potential students, as well as welcoming first time and returning visitors.
